Extreme Love

“All Your Strength” – Judges 16: 23-30

“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.  The second is equally important; Love your neighbor as yourself.  No other commandment is greater than these"

Samson was strong physically, but had great weaknesses – 

 Samson disregarded God’s laws and commands – “He scooped some of the honey into his hands and ate it along the way. He also gave some to his father and mother, and they ate it. But he didn't tell them he had taken the honey from the carcass of the lion.”  Judges 14:9 (NLT)

 Samson did not deal well with others -    “…He went down to the town of Ashkelon, killed thirty men, took their belongings, and gave their clothing to the men who had answered his riddle. But Samson was furious about what had happened, and he went back home to live with his father and mother.”  Judges 14:19 (NLT) 

 Samson struggled with morality issues – “One day Samson went to the Philistine city of Gaza and spent the night with a prostitute.”  Judges 16:1 (NLT) 

 Samson could not say, “No” to the ladies – “Then Delilah pouted, "How can you say you love me when you don't confide in me…So day after day she nagged him until he couldn't stand it any longer…Finally, Samson told her his secret.”  Judges 16:15-17 (NLT) 

Samson found true strength through captivity – “So the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. They took him to Gaza, where he was bound with bronze chains and made to grind grain in the prison.  But before long his hair began to grow back.”  Judges 16:21-22 (NLT) 

God Promises to give us strength – “But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

Prayer – Dear Father in Heaven, I have been trying to live life under my own power.  But I realize that I am only strong through You.  Help me to wait upon You this week, so that You can renew my strength.  Give me the power to love you with all that I am, all that have and all that I do.  Amen.
